chioggia

A little Venice: we are talking about Chioggia, a historic town, famous for its sea and nightlife.

"Half of land and half of water", "half Venetian and half Emilian" is how the art critic Cesare Brandi defined Chioggia, as it is very similar to the island of Venice for its canals and Bologna for its arcades. Every day, except Monday, the fish market takes place, so you can enjoy the smells and flavors of the centuries-old tradition of local fishermen. It is in the center, behind the Granary Palace, next to the Town Hall, on the Vena canal.

The colors and diversity of the fresh fish sold, intrigue those who come from places far from the sea. You will find numerous restaurants to taste typical Venetian dishes in a picturesque and timeless landscape. After a walk over the symbolic Vigo bridge, continue towards the Church of San Domenico and admire the homonymous Crucifix, so dear to the citizens for centuries.

The clock tower of the Church of Sant'Andrea inside houses a museum and a terrace from which you can admire the lagoon landscape. The museum is run by volunteers and the cost of the ticket is €1.50.

A stop not to be missed is Sottomarina, the seaside resort par excellence in the area. 10 km of bathing establishments equipped to enjoy the sun and sand on a relaxing day. Do not miss a walk by the sea and along the famous Sottomarina Dam.

In the evening the city lights up, shops and bars remain open for those who want to enjoy the nightlife and stroll along the promenade. You can also spend a fun evening at The Astoria Village, a Lunapark with more than 20 attractions for young and old.

Another stop that we recommend is Pellestrina, reachable from Chioggia by vaporetto (line 11, € 10.00 A / R) that every day in 25 minutes allows you to reach the island.

The coast of Pellestrina is perfect for a day of cycling accompanied by fresh air and saltiness, among the fishing villages where time seems to have stopped, but with boats still in full activity today. You will find, in fact, the fishing boats anchored to the shore and the scents of the sea vivid in the restaurants of the island. Also worth a visit is the lipu naturalistic oasis of Ca'Roman where the intact landscape allows you to see up close the typical fauna of the lagoon and the dune environment
