Venice - the not to miss

First time in Venice?

This is the article for you. We have selected all the points of interest to make your first trip to this unique city easy and unforgettable.

Venice is the main attraction that lead our guests to choose our hotel and stay in this area. If you too are planning to visit this unique city, we have plenty of tips to help you spend the day in the best way; not missing the worldwide famous highlight, but also finding some hidden gems in the lagoon. Start the day with some confortable shoes and keep in mind that there are no cars in Venice, and the main mean of transport will be your feet, along with the waterbus. Our hotel Do Ciacole is connected with Venice with the train station of Mira-Mirano (at the reception we'll give you all the timetables and the map to reach the train station from the hotel). In about 20-25 min., you will arrive at the train station of Venezia Santa Lucia, right in the historical centre. From here you can already see the Grand Canal, the main waterway. Here you can wither choose to:

A. take the waterbus tickets for the entire day (EUR 20,00 p.p.) or

B. walk through the narrow streets called "calli" besides the canals.

The hotspots of the city are:

- Piazza San Marco, with the Doge's Palace, the Basilica and the Bell Tower

- Rialto's Bridge, and the San Polo sestiere (area) with the fish market and the bacari

- Gallerie dell'Accademia ('700 art), Peggy Guggenheim Collection (modern art) and Punta della Dogana (contemporary art, from here the view is stunning). This is also called the Dorsoduro Museum Mile.

There are also some hidden gems that we suggest you to visit, even if you are spending just one day in the lagoon:

- The ghetto area in Cannareggio, which is close to the train station and on the main path to reach the San Marco area

- The arsenale, the ancient place where boats used to be made, in the sestriere of Castello

- Libreria acqua alta, a unique bookshop

- Squero di San Trovaso, one of the most ancient place for the making of gondolas.

There are obviously missing the islands, that's because we suggest to give them a dedicated day, since the way with the waterbus is quite long.

Time to come back? If you want to spend the evening in the city you can have dinner and then enjoy the nightlife in Venice in the Santa Margherita area, listen some music at the Venice Jazz Club or have a bacaro tour (pub crawling) and eat some cicchetti. Don't worry, the last train to Mira-Mirano is at 00.01.
